Becoming A Special Needs Parent Is Frightening
But You Aren’t Alone!
One of the most frightening things I’ve ever experienced in my life was being told that my son, John-Michael, would be born with Down syndrome… and I was a US Marine! When you get the diagnosis, the mere depth of the unknown is like looking over a cliff and not being able to see the bottom.
Worst of all you don’t know where to turn to get answers and quite frankly the medical community provides very little help in pointing parents in a direction that would provide positive moral support.
We want to use this book project to support those organizations that provide support and direction for parents who are faced with the challenges of raising a son or daughter with a special need. Knowledge is the cure to the fear we all experience and that’s why I’ve partnered with these organizations to raise awareness and much more!
Why you’ll want to read “321 Down Street”
321 Down Street isn’t just another Down Syndrome book filled with facts and figures or all the information about the potential ancillary medical challenges we MIGHT face that frankly scares the crap out of you.
This is a fiction book that allows the world a peek into the lives of parents who are sitting across the desk of their doctor while he tells them that their son will be “born with Trisomy 21 commonly known as Down Syndrome” (you know the conversation I’m talking about).
The goal of this book project is to start to redirect the culture from the way it currently sees kids with Down Syndrome (as helpless and useless) to accepting them as just people with different challenges. I want them to realize that these kids aren’t as much disabled as they are just abled-differently!
What I believe:
A large portion of society holds this idea that kids with Down Syndrome can’t accomplish anything or be someone of value. This book explores that question as well as taking the reader on the very same journey that parents of kids with special needs experience when they are told their child won’t be the person they’d expected. What I discovered with my son John-Michael is; our kids aren’t disabled as much as they are abled-differently and that every one of them can fulfill their purpose in this world. I do hope that you take a chance on this book and allow yourself to go on this very special journey into a world you most likely had never thought to engage in.

Read The Review That Betty tried to post three separate times but Amazon deleted it without explanation:
“In the first couple of pages, I was hooked and found myself being late to things and missing TV shows because I couldn’t put the book down!!! Keven Card does an amazing job in captivating the readers attention and drawing them into the lives of the characters of the book. Instantly I was engaged in the story as I followed the love story of a very loving husband and wife who encounter a twist in their life’s journey. This book exposes so many topics: marriage, true love between a husband and wife, facing difficulties in life and seeing the larger picture, and seeing all people through the eyes of God and knowing that each of us have a purpose to fulfill here on earth no matter how different we are. This book addresses a topic that our society does not talk about enough, but needs to be brought into light in the way that Mr. Card did so through this book. Keven, you’re a great writer and do a wonderful job in depicting a story and a topic that so many people need to hear! I highly recommend this book to not only families with children with special needs, but each of us to open up our world that sometimes is narrowed by our stereotypes and ignorance. Let this book do that for you and see how your eyes open up to a beautiful world!”
